New Hope hits target for Vinnies Community Sleepout

14 June 2013

With the assistance of the Darling Downs community, New Hope Group employees, neighbours, suppliers and contractors, New Hope has raised more than $5,000 so far for the Vinnies Community Sleepout being held in Toowoomba on Thursday, June 20.

New Acland General Manager Jim Randell and New Hope’s Chief Operating Officer Bruce Denney are taking part in the sleepout to raise much-needed funds for the Darling Downs St Vincent de Paul Society’s homelessness programs.

As part of the fundraising drive, the New Acland mine held a special fundraising breakfast event in the Acland Hall this morning (Friday 14 June) which boosted the New Hope Group tally.

About 50 attended the fundraising breakfast, including John Wagner who gave an update presentation about his company’s new jet-capable airport being built at Wellcamp.

“Now that we have hit our $5,000 target, Bruce and I have reluctantly agreed to wear something ‘special’ on the sleepout that will be provided by our employees,” Jim said.

“I hate to think what is in store for us, but I’m sure we will certainly stand out on the night of the sleepout.

“The fact that we have hit our fundraising target really means nothing in the bigger scheme of things because we would love everyone to keep donating and see how much money we can all raise for this very worthy cause.

“The New Hope Group is honoured to be a part of this event that helps such a great cause - the fight against homelessness - and we would really appreciate your support.

“A big thank you to everyone who has supported us so far – but it would be really great to raise even more much-needed funds for Vinnies.

“Every bit of this fundraising goes directly to Vinnies to help make a difference.”

More than 105,000 Australians are homeless each night of the year. Just under half of these are women, and a quarter are under the age of 18.

Participants in the Vinnies Community Sleepout will sleep rough just as the homeless do. They are provided with a piece of cardboard, some dinner and a warm drink.
