Community
New Hope is passionate about playing a positive and proactive role in the communities and regions in which we operate. At New Acland, we are proud to support the local community through employment, economic contribution, sponsorship and donations, and community engagement.
Research hones in on local priorities
New research identifying and exploring how best to strengthen the social development and resilience of towns around New Acland Mine will help locals to build a strong future for the area.
The research, funded by New Hope and undertaken by social planning company Elliot Whiteing, investigated the needs and wants to local communities and identified six key development themes.

Community Reference Group
CRG’s role
is to provide
local insight
New Hope has established a New Acland Community Reference Group (CRG) as part of an ongoing community engagement process. A transparent and equitable process was used to select representatives from across the region as the foundation members.
Learn more about the New Acland Community Reference Group
The CRG’s role is to provide local insight on key topics, particularly in relation to potential opportunities and impacts presented by the New Acland operation. It is also another avenue for sharing information with the broader community in addition to the Community Information Centre, newsletters and other initiatives. The CRG will operate as an advisory body and outcomes will inform New Hope’s planning and decision-making.

Community Information Centre
New Hope engages in extensive community programs
New Hope is committed to working closely with local residents and other key stakeholders on current and proposed operations. Our New Hope Community Information Centre is based in Campbell Street, the main street of Oakey.
Our Senior Community Advisor and Community Liaison Officer, who are both based at the Centre, have been part of the Darling Downs community for many years and are passionate about working closely with local residents.
The centre provides factual information about the New Acland operation, employment, contractor and local supplier opportunities and details about our community sponsorship and donation program.
We also hold regular Neighbours' Days and stakeholder tours.
Community Sponsorship and Donations
We donate around $600,000
annually
New Hope donates more than $600,000 each year to support local organisations including schools, sporting groups and charities. Our programs have contributed to the Oakey, Brymaroo, Goombungee, Jondaryan, Kingsthorpe, Kulpi, Aubigny, Dalby, Jimbour, Pittsworth, Toowoomba and Yandilla communities, just to name a few.
New Hope is also a significant sponsor of the CareFlight rescue helicopter service’s Darling Downs operations.

New Acland Community Investment Fund
About the Fund
New Hope Group currently contributes substantial support each year to community-based organisations in the region surrounding New Acland Coal Mine, such as local schools and sporting clubs, community groups and centres, health and aged care organisations, regional industry associations, charities, festivals and events.
The New Acland Community Investment Fund (the Fund) aims to further assist not-for-profit community groups and organisations with grants of between $5,000.00 and $15,000.00. New Hope Group will consider applications for amounts outside these parameters that meet all of the Community Investment Fund criteria. The maximum amount available for each grant will be at New Hope Group’s discretion and will be considered on the merits of each application and the Fund’s annual budget.
The Fund is part of New Hope Group and the New Acland Coal Mine’s on-going commitment to community investment and development, providing further opportunity to give back to the communities in which we live and work. It is designed to deliver measurable benefit to a broad range of people and with a strong focus on community development programs.
The New Acland Community Reference Group plays a significant role in the administration of the Fund by assessing applications and making recommendations to New Hope Group on appropriate community development initiatives for support.
Funding Rounds
Applications to the Fund are welcome at any time, to allow for the seasonal demands of some organisations. Requests will be reviewed twice each year. The dates of the two funding rounds are:
- Funding Round 1: Applications close on 30 March annually for funding allocated to initiatives that are expected to commence between 1 July and 31 December of that year.
- Funding Round 2: Applications close on 30 September annually for funding allocated to initiatives that are expected to commence between 1 January and 30 June of the following year.
All applications must be received by 5pm on the due date. Application Forms and details about submission options are available at website www.aclandproject.com.au.
